Slumdog Millionaire Analysis Questions


What is a Hollywood film?
 
Definition - A Hollywood ending is a conventional ending in a film, typically regarded as sentimental or simplistic and often featuring an improbably positive ending.

I think that In some ways it is a Hollywood film ending because it is a happy ending where the hero gets what he wants, and it a very over the top ending with dancing and music which also symbolises how happy they are. It is also a rally predictable ending like a typical ending (guy gets girl)

"Slumdog Millionaire has the perfect ending of a Bollywood inspired film. it concludes everything perfectly"


How far do you agree with this idea? consider all the ways SM could be seen to have a Hollywood ending and try to apply the equilibrium theory.

 I think that Slumdog Millionaire in some way is a is a Hollywood ending because the girl gets the guy which is what they have wanted through the whole film, having to overcome lots of different challenges that come in the way of the new equilibrium. Also the dancing and music at the end of the film also kind of  makes it a cheesy ending of the film compared to the rest of the film.
However the fact that Jamal looses his brother Salim right at the end of the film kind of  ruins the happy ending and new equilibrium for some of the audience that has grew to like him as a character.

How is the score of Spirited Away used to portray Chihiro? It is used to show how Chihiro changes and comes more independent throughou the film. it also makes the film more interesting for the audience becuase it is something that they have never heard. What is the most significant change to Chihiro's character? How does the director Hayao Miyazaki convey this? Horror Film: Task 1 Research coarse work

  Horror   A Quit Place Opening Scene  We learn that the characters cant make noises for some unknown reason which makes it more creepy and build suspense.  We are introduced to the first 5 characters who we can assume will be the main characters  in the film and whatever disruption of the equilibrium will happen its going to effect them the most. The setting is a deserted shop and road with a path of sand on which is not normal for the audience therefore making it more creepy. Also a bridge were there son gets killed by the unknown monster that the audience meet for the first time.  The look/style/aesthetic is very old and rustic in the story opening.
